Roses and Thorns

Among a bunch of roses, I saw a rose

The most beautiful flower among all those

I picked it up and I held it tight

And declared the rose mine as was my right

And within that small rose I could clearly see

All of the people who had loved and left me

I started for home and it started to rain

And I started my way back down memory lane

The rose was so much like the people I know

With majestic beauty above and thorns below

With the memory of my loved ones, I held it close

The rain washing away the crimson from the thorny rose

And with that my eyes got queasy and blurred

And could only see the crimson waterfall that poured

And I smiled and I slept on the city street, red

Waiting, Just waiting, for the heavenly bed
